Heeding God's Call Continues Good Work

Therese Miller of Heeding God's Call reports, "Heeding God's Call gathered about 60 faithful gun violence prevention activists in Harrisburg on Thursday, Nov-19 to inspire hope, raise our voices and take action against House Bill 40, the so-called “Shoot First” bill. With a nearly full bus and several cars from Philadelphia joining with people of faith from Harrisburg, Lancaster, Reading, and York we gathered at Grace United Methodist Church for preparation and prayer. Three among us testified to the House Judiciary Committee – Rev. Dr. Mary Wade, Rabbi Carl Choper, and Rev. Jim Brown. Five of us spoke at a press conference – Rev. Belita Mitchell, Rabbi Linda Holtzman, Rev. Isaac Miller, Bishop Kermit Newkirk and Rev. Kathy Harvey Nelson. The rest of us watched the testimony from the hearing room and on television monitors in the hallway, and gathered on the steps of the Capitol Rotunda to sing and to support our speakers. It was a good day! View photos taken by Stephen Drachler of United Methodist Witness on the web HeedingGodsCall-11-19-09
